  • Infonetics: Carrier Spending Decline Below 6 Percent in 2009
    According to the company's new report, 2009 Service Provider Capex, Opex, ARPU, and Subscribers, worldwide, global capex is forecast to decline at most by 6 percent this year, mainly due to a significant capex shakeout in the Middle East and Africa, a weakening U.S. dollar, expected declines in the Brazilian real and Mexican peso, and delays in U.S. broadband stimulus funding, according to the report.

  • Lawmakers Call Upon NTIA, RUS to 'Lower Barriers' for Small Business Broadband Grants
    Following an Oct. 28 congressional hearing, a bipartisan group of 21 lawmakers on the House Small Business Committee reportedly wrote the National Telecommunications and Information Agency and Rural Utilities Service today, asking the agencies to "lower barriers" so small businesses can participate in the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act's broadband expansion initiatives.

    Given the detailed application requirements, many applicants dedicated significant human resources to enable application input from their legal, technical and financial executives, as well as to hire outside consultants. That means many applicants made significant investments in the creation of their broadband stimulus applications. While all are obviously hoping for a bid payoff on those investments, for others it could mean throwing money into a black hole.
