Red Condor Announced Results of Anti-Spam Effectiveness Test

By Shamila Janakiraman, TMCnet Contributor

Red Condor, a provider of fully managed e-mail security solutions, announced the results of a third-party anti-spam effectiveness and feature comparison test between Red Condor Message Assurance Gateway 2700 (MG2700) and Google Inc.’s Message Security powered by Postini (News - Alert).

The Tolly Group, which conducted the test, found that the MAG2700’s spam detection rate was much higher than Postini’s. After tests conducted for a week The Tolly Group (News - Alert) came to the conclusion that Red Condor offers “better anti-spam performance at considerably less cost.”

The test indicated that Red Condor’s MAG2700 delivers legitimate mail more accurately and generated only one false positive in over 190,700 inbound e-mails. However the Postini Hosted Service generated one false positive in just 527 inbound mails. A false positive is a good e-mail which has been classified as spam.

The Red Condor MAG2700 exhibited a spam detection rate of 99.991 percent while the Postini’s detection rate was only 95.397 percent. Red Condor misclassified less than 0.01 percent of the total spam mails and Postini misclassified more than 4.60 percent. This led to the conclusion that Red Condor was effective in stopping bad e-mail and other malicious content.

“The MAG2700’s performance in head-to-head evaluations against the industry-recognized leaders continues to validate the effectiveness of our system and technology,” said Dr. Thomas Steding, president and chief executive officer of Red Condor. “During the test, our spam filter outperformed Postini’s, and our system produced far fewer false positives. In addition, our MAG2700 one-year price per mailbox is 85 percent less expensive than Postini’s hosted service. Combine Red Condor’s exceptional performance with our price, ease of use, worry-free management and around-the-clock support, and it’s clear why so many of our customers have migrated away from these other solutions.”

The process of testing was in accordance with Tolly Common RFP #1058 “Anti-Spam Gateway (News - Alert) v1.0”. The MAG2700 was configured behind the corporate firewall and quarantine features were enabled.

During testing Tolly network engineers modified their corporate DNS servers for redirecting all incoming e-mail to the Postini servers for further analysis and filtering. The LDAP query feature available on the Red Condor device was enabled to run recipient verification on the Tolly Group’s Active Directory server, said Tolly sources.

Tolly Group tested both platforms using a live e-mail stream of messages and all inbound e-mail messages were scanned for possible spam.

Red Condor’s accurate e-mail filter, hybrid architecture Vx Technology and fully managed appliances offers a cost effective spam filter. This time saving solution is suitable for both small business and ISPs which have millions of e-mail inboxes.
