Actiontec Debuts Q1000H Wireless N VDSL Modem Router for Broadband Support
By Nathesh, TMCnet Contributor
Actiontec, a developer of broadband connectivity and broadband-powered solutions that simplify and enrich the digital life, has reportedly released the Q1000H Wireless N VDSL Modem Router, a residential powerhouse that can fit into any broadband network deployment and is capable of dramatically reducing capital and operational costs for carriers, as it offers a single CPE solution for their entire network.
With its new, powerful wireless N radio, gigabit Ethernet switch and WAN port, dual-core 32-bit processor, support for HPNA and capacious amounts of memory (32MB Flash, 64 MB SDRAM), Q1000H propels through the Internet with incredible speed. It can simultaneously support a wide range of demanding multimedia applications, including HDTV, standard TV, Voice over WiFi (News - Alert), media sharing, and online gaming.
Actiontec has said that the router offers unprecedented deployment flexibility. Carriers can now use the same CPE device across all their deployment topologies – in metro areas, rural, and anywhere in between. As a result, the versatile router fits into any ultra-broadband or broadband access architecture, including ADSL, VDSL, fiber to the curb, fiber to the neighborhood, even fiber to the home.
Brian Henrichs, chief business development officer at Actiontec Electronics (News - Alert), said that officials have been working closely with many of the high speed Internet carriers and the Q1000H directly addresses the application needs and challenges associated with their current and future broadband initiatives. By offering a single SKU for an entire broadband architecture, the Q1000H delivers significant operational savings by streamlining ordering, inventory, training, installation, and support processes for the service providers.
Applicants seeking part of the first round funding in broadband stimulus money from the federal government are awaiting word about the recipients. Some 2,00 applications have been submitted totaling $28 million worth of requests. While the field is crowded, industry experts said projects that have a large impact would likely stand a good chance of earning the funding.
The National Telecommunications Information Administration, the U.S. Department of Commerce agency that advises the president on telecom policy, expect to announce the recipients in mid December.
The Wireless N VDSL Modem Router has the option to include a Java Virtual Machine and Java Runtime Software. The router can be used to host a number of Java applications and operators can offer customers more options in a modular fashion. They need not have to implement sweeping changes via a full scale firmware update, but can use Java to selectively update customer units with revenue-generating applications.
The device features integrated support for 802.11n, the latest and supposedly fastest wireless networking protocol. With performance speeds six times faster than earlier standards, 802.11n lets consumers download HD movies in minutes or enjoy an online gaming experience that nearly rivals wired cables. And also while the router runs on the VDSL 2 access technology, it also features an “Auto Fall Back to ADSL2+/2“ option, which allows it to operate on the ADSL 2+ and ADSL 2 access technology.
In other news, MTS Allstream (News - Alert) selected Actiontec Electronics for high-speed DSL products and Actiontec unveiled the triple-play universal DSL gateway.
