Ruckus Wireless Intros Wireless Broadband Solution
By Anshu Shrivastava, TMCnet Contributor
Ruckus Wireless, a manufacturer of advanced “Smart Wi-Fi” technology and wireless LAN systems, has reportedly introduced a complete, end-to-end managed, wireless broadband access solution.
The company said that the solution gives service providers a “build-as-you-grow” model for offering broadband data services in developing urban environments at a fraction of the cost of alternative approaches.
With Ruckus WBA solution, operators can deploy wireless coverage and capacity at the “lowest possible cost per bit.” Company officials said that it addresses the “massive opportunity” for high-speed data services that WiMAX (News - Alert) cannot due to start up cost and deployment complexity.
This latest offering is built on next generation Smart WiFi (News - Alert) technologies, and features outdoor mesh APs, customer premises equipment, a new line of smart WiFi backhaul systems and system-wide remote management.
Company officials said that the firm integrated high-speed 802.11n technology with its patented intelligent antenna designs and dynamic beamforming software to overcome interference problems.
Also, the Ruckus dynamic antenna system allows efficient spatial reuse in wireless mesh networks. Company officials said that this is possible by varying the direction of each packet transmission -- adjacent mesh APs often can transmit simultaneously on the same channel thereby maximizing network capacity.
Ruckus Smart Mesh networking routes traffic over wired and wirelessly meshed APs, using a performing path in real time, said officials. It lets APs be aggregated over gigabit Ethernet for capacity without the overhead of additional mesh hops.
Unlike traditional broadband access solutions that blanket large geographies with expensive access and backhaul equipment that takes years to deploy, the Ruckus WBA solution allows operators to speed their time to revenue and profit by “incrementally” building out their infrastructure from concentrated areas where people eat, shop, live or congregate, said company officials.
Additionally, APs can be included to increase capacity as business grows. Company officials said that this enables providers to deploy infrastructure in months; reduce CAPEX from billions to millions; reduce operational expense by an order of magnitude; and more.
Company officials said that the Ruckus WBA solution provides all the essential elements to build a robust wireless broadband access infrastructure, including customer premise equipment, meshed WiFi access points, high-speed backhaul and local and remote WiFi management.
The Ruckus WBA solution includes meshed access network; high-speed wireless backhaul; customer premises equipment; and remote WiFi service management.
Selina Lo, president and CEO at Ruckus Wireless (News - Alert), said that in emerging geographies where there remain huge opportunities for broadband access, rolling out fixed line or traditional wireless broadband technologies is often not possible or cost-prohibitive.
“We’ve delivered a one-of-a-kind solution to solve this problem that will fundamentally change the economics for delivering broadband data services in these markets,” Lo said.
