AT&T Continues New Hampshire Network Expansion
NASHUA, N.H., Aug. 6 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- To address the growing demand for advanced wireless data products and services in the Granite State, AT&T* today announced that a new cell site has been activated in Sunapee. As a result, coverage has been enhanced in downtown Sunapee as well as along Route 11.
The new site is among seventeen that AT&T has added in New Hampshire this year, many of which have been focused on better serving rural communities like Sunapee. These new cell sites, located in Albany, Amherst, Brookline, Conway, Laconia, Marlborough, Moultonborough, Newport, Peterborough, Sunapee, Tamworth, Wakefield, Weare, Westmoreland and Wolfeboro build upon AT&T's overall technology investment in the state, which exceeded $20 million from 2006 to 2008.
"We welcome investments like AT&T's in our community," said State Senator Bob Odell, chairman of the Senate Ways and Means Committee. "Wireless service is becoming more critical to local job creation and economic development, family communications and public safety in urban and rural New Hampshire."
"Delivering dependable wireless coverage in more places across New Hampshire for consumers and business customers who need to stay connected to work, family and friends is our ultimate objective," said William Leahy, vice president of Atlantic region legislative and regulatory affairs for AT&T. "Our ongoing investments in the state will help us ensure that our customers have access to the wireless services that help drive economic growth."
Earlier this year, AT&T announced the launch of its 3G wireless network in Salem, Newington, Hampstead, Goffstown, Concord, Pelham, Portsmouth, Nashua, Hudson, Manchester, Bedford, Exeter, Hampton Falls, Derry, Londonderry, Windham, Merrimack, Hooksett, Bow, Rochester, Barrington, Madbury, Brentwood, Hampton, Seabrook, Greenland, Farmington, Rye, Kingston, Dover and Durham. Over the next year AT&T plans to expand our 3G footprint to include all AT&T cell sites in the state. AT&T's 3G network, the nation's fastest according to independent research, provides consumers and businesses with broadband-like speed and access to the latest interactive voice, video and data applications.
"Whether they are checking e-mail, uploading video or using award winning applications like AT&T Navigator, AT&T is helping today's wireless customers to make the most of their mobile experience," added Steve Krom, vice president and general manager for AT&T New England. "From road warriors to texting teens, twice as many Smartphone users in the U.S. have chosen AT&T over any other wireless carrier. We have something for everyone."
AT&T's 3G mobile broadband network is based on the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) family of technologies that includes GSM and UMTS, the most open and widely used wireless network platforms in the world. As a result, only AT&T can offer 3G data roaming in more than 80 countries, as well as voice calling in more than 215 countries. AT&T's 3G network is now available in nearly 350 U.S. major metropolitan areas.
There are eight AT&T-owned retail locations in New Hampshire. AT&T's products and services are also available at a number of authorized dealer and national retail locations.
