In its bid to build a cost-effective WiMAX (Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access), Nokia Siemens (News - Alert) Networks has continued its developments by applying its latest and most advanced platform for WiMAX. Its Flexi base station platform will allow operators to deploy the best available infrastructure, in order to create flat network architecture. This will not only help in energy conservation; it will also reduce operational and capital expenditures. This is expected to create significant savings for customers.
Nokia Siemens Networks (News - Alert) has been working towards achieving its manufacturing and deployment goals for the 2008 and 2009 launch periods. It is also close to earning certifications and interoperability achievements since the WiMAX Forum (News - Alert) certification process for the 2.5 GHz and 3.5 GHz profiles of the Flexi WiMAX Base Station are almost completed.
“Nokia Siemens Networks has prioritized interoperable, standards-based implementation and multivendor interworking of its ASN (Access service network) gateways, IP (Internet Protocol) core and Authentication, Authorization and Accounting solutions to support operators’ current equipment and for protecting their future investments,” stated Markku Hollström, head of Wireless Broadband, Radio Access, Nokia Siemens Networks.
“The Nokia Siemens Networks ASN gateway is the definitive leader in terms of performance and volume, as well as openness in network interfaces, and our One-AAA has a proven track record for providing flexible, carrier-grade performance,” Hollström continued.
In order to ensure that there is optimal user experience from both the networks and devices, Nokia Siemens Networks has conducted IOT (interoperability tests) with various terminal and chipset vendors for 2.5 GHz and will do the same for 3.5 GHz. While the network interoperability tests are carried out, Nokia Siemens Networks continues to check for radio network interoperability with various WiMAX core network infrastructure vendors.
“We have a clear strategy to produce the industry’s most advanced, cost-efficient solution and are confident in our ability to deliver the most comprehensive solution that will monetize mobile WiMAX for operators,” Hollström added.
The Nokia Siemens Network has over 20 WiMAX references inclusive of fixed and mobile WiMAX and its latest WiMAX customers were secured in the third quarter of 2008.The compnay is expected to start thecommercial operations of it’s first mobile WiMAX customers before the end of the year 2008.
