4G Wireless Evolution - U.S. Mobile Search Advertising Revenues to Grow to $2.3 Billion by 2013

Predicting a compound annual growth rate of 125.6 percent for the mobile search advertising revenues, BIA's The Kelsey Group, a division of BIA Advisory Services, has stated that the revenues in this sector will grow from $39 million in 2008 to $2.3 billion by 2013.

The mobile advertising can be helpful in multiplatform business models as it helps local advertisers to find income through cross platforms, including online, social and mobile media. With the advent of mobile search market, the broadcasters now have new avenues to generate income. These include local content, mobile video, messaging and even interactive applications for mobile devices.

“We anticipate a tenfold increase in the number of mobile Internet users during the forecast period -- from 5.2 million in 2008 to 56.2 million in 2013," said Neal Polachek, chief executive officer, BIA's The Kelsey Group, in a release. "The attendant increase in searches per user and the percentage of search results that are served with ads will drive the growth in mobile search ad revenues.”

To generate more income, the broadcaster can also explore subscription revenue models along with advertising revenue models, says BIA. In fact, the new technology trends can help them compete better in today's marketplace, if they are open to opportunities. All they need to do is to determine viable, effective go-to-market strategies that monetize their assets.

BIA/Kelsey will present the forecast during "Winning Media Strategies," its first conference to focus on the new media landscape and the opportunities for traditional media businesses and online companies, May 20-22 in Washington, D.C. To demonstrate the importance of mobile and other online methods of distribution to the broadcast industry, the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) recently partnered with Winning Media Strategies.

Recently, the company stated that U.S. mobile advertising revenues (search and display) will grow to $3.1 billion in 2013, from $160 million in 2008, representing a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 81.2 percent. During the same period, the firm forecasts mobile local search advertising revenues will increase from $20 million to $1.3 billion, a CAGR of 130.5 percent.
