4G Wireless Evolution - Verizon Wireless Unveils 4G Wireless Evolution Plans

Verizon (News - Alert) Wireless, a telecommunications company that offers a large wireless voice and data network in the United States, recently unveiled its plan for establishing the first 4G Long Term Evolution wireless network in the nation.
 
To excel in the field of 4G, players must focus on their core competencies, and also facilitate and embrace collaboration and partnering with other companies. According to Tony Melone, Senior Vice President and Chief Technology Officer, Verizon Wireless, for proper functioning of the potential devices and applications with the 4G Network, it is essential to ensure that the network is fundamentally sound.
 
He added that reliability will continue to differentiate Verizon Wireless and the suppliers chosen by it in the marketplace. Apart from concentrating its attention upon building the next-generation 4G LTE (News - Alert) wireless network, Verizon Wireless is also taking a proactive approach in developing the mobile ecosystem to support it through various collaborative initiatives.
 
One of these initiatives is promoting Open Development of devices and applications. The company will offer support to third-party developers create and certify devices to run on its network. Over 55 devices have been certified for running on its network by Verizon till now, most of which are specialized machine-to-machine units. This way, the company has evolved a tested and proven process for certification of the advanced devices that will be powered by its 4G Network.
 
The company has founded a Verizon LTE Innovation Center which helps in early development of unique and prevailing products that can run upon its 4G LTE network. A number of its strategic partners are supporting consumer electronics industry in bringing the products to market swiftly. 
The center also acts as a co-coordinator between the hardware and device companies and the software and application developers to enable smooth and rapid development.
 
Verizon Wireless has also developed a group of talented application developers with the name Verizon Developer Community. This group works hard to bring innovative applications to Verizon's customers through the company's forthcoming application stores to be known as V CAST Apps. These stores will be introduced by the end of the year for helping the developers leverage Verizon's distribution network and sell their applications to company's customers.
 
Further, the company has joined hands with China Mobile, Softbank (News - Alert) and Vodafone to found a new development center called Joint Innovation Lab. This lab is aimed at developing a software platform that will allow developers to create their mobile applications that will run upon multiple operating systems to offer cross platform compatibility.
 
Recently, Verizon Wireless has also formed a joint venture with Qualcomm (News - Alert) that will focus on offering machine-to-machine wireless services for various market segments such as healthcare and manufacturing.
 
The company has been adopting an aggressive 4G LTE network build plan, with aims to launch the 4G services in 25 to 30 markets in the year 2010. Further, the company plans to upgrade its current nationwide 3G network with the 4G network by the end of 2013.
