Infrastructure vendors are facing a portfolio management crisis. Currently, more than 60 product variants are required to cover all worldwide frequency bands, cellular standards, and power levels. The major issue in the 4G cellular base station markets has to be addressed, according to Tim Haynes, CEO of Nujira. In this regard, RF Micro Devices, Inc. or "RFMD" and Nujira together joined forces to unveil a new high efficiency GaN-based broadband power amplifier - or "PA" - that is tailored for 4G base stations. The joint design addresses the major issue in the 4G cellular base station market and can be deployed across multiple product variants, thereby reducing time-to-market, and development costs.

(b) Both WiMAX and LTE have advantages and disadvantages, but the company believes that the technologies will coexist in the future. (c) WiMAX stands to benefit from government stimulus and rural broadband initiatives. WiMAX's relative maturity positions it favorably for 'shovel ready' projects.

LigTel Communications, an Indiana-based telecommunications company offering next-generation data services, reportedly purchased Airspan's advanced technology WiMAX equipment through systems integrator Stutler Technologies Corp. Operating in the 700 MHz and 3.65 GHz frequency bands, LigTel's network serves residents and businesses of several counties, including Noble, LaGrange, Elkhart, Kosciusko and Whitley.

Nth Air, a wireless broadband service provider deploying a nationwide 3.65 GHz WiMAX network in underserved markets reportedly selected Tranzeo Wireless Technologies as its WiMAX and WiFi equipment partner to build out a nationwide network. The value of the first purchase order to Tranzeo is US$4.5M bringing the current backlog of all purchase orders to $21.6 million.
