Yota has launched what is claimed to be the first Russian high-speed wireless network based on Mobile WiMAX and its newly released Yota Egg portable WiMAX/Wi-Fi router is capable of enabling users to connect to the 4G mobile WiMAX service via Wi-Fi.

A developer of patented mobile payments and banking platforms, Xcellink International, reportedly issued patents in Australia (number 731121) and New Zealand (number 334917) called 'Automated Electronic Funds Transfer System and Method.' The patent applies to the mechanized data exchange program devised by Xcellink, which facilitates transactions between buyers and sellers, or in this context customers and merchants, over local wired or wireless links.

AT&T added two million net new customers in the third quarter. Verizon added 1.2 million net customer additions in its third quarter. Sprint Nextel reported a loss of 135,000 retail subscribers, which is a combination of our post-paid and prepaid subscribers, but that was the company's best retail net subscriber result in more than two years, says Sprint Nextel CEO Dan Hesse.

Semiconductor solutions provider Mindspeed Technologies, Inc. has announced that its Comcerto 100 broadband gateway processor has been selected by Beceem Communications. Beceem will integrate the processor from Mindspeed in its BCS5200 customer premise equipment chip for residential, small office/home office, SMB and enterprise applications.
