SR Telecom (News - Alert), a provider of WiMAX solutions, has announced a new executive appointment to help the company move toward new generations of solutions for the enterprise, residential, personal and public safety markets.

The new position of vice president, research and development (R&D) was appointed to Jules Pierre Lamoureux, who previously worked for companies like Nortel, Wavesat (News - Alert) and Harris.

Lamoureux will report to president and Chief Operating Officer (COO) Serge Legris.

Lamoureux brings with him 24 years of experience and is a member of the IEEE 802.16 working group, the IEEE Standards Association, the WiMAX Forum (News - Alert) Technical Working Group, and l’Ordre des Ingénieurs du Québec. He also holds a Bachelor Engineering and a Masters of Engineering degree from McGill University and has patents pending in WiMAX technology, including the award-winning 4G multimode chipset architecture.

“The combination of Pierre’s leadership skills, technical knowledge and depth of experience in the wireless industry will further strengthen our capability to bring innovative, WiMAX solutions to our global customer base,” said Serge Legris.

Lamoureux is also known for his leadership of R&D teams that led to the "first WiMAX chip in the world, the first WiMAX-certified CPE and the most highly integrated mobile WiMAX chipset."

Most recently, the company signed a worldwide reseller agreement with Telsa Srl covering the freemax WiMAX subscriber station, an indoor self-install subscriber station.

The new agreement will expand SR Telecom’s portfolio of WiMAX end-user devices and offers customers a cost-effective option for deploying premium wireless triple-play broadband services.

A recent report from West Technology Research Solutions (WTRS) has found that regulatory conditions are looking bright for the mobile WiMAX industry in both growth and adoption.
