Targus Implements Expand Networks' WAN Optimization Technology
TMCnet Contributor Expand Networks (News - Alert) specializing in application acceleration solutions over the Wide Area Network (WAN) announced that Targus has implemented its WAN Optimization technology for improving applications running on the MPLS WAN. Expand Networks’ technology will maximize user productivity by placing them in virtual proximity to the application and datacenter services.
Virtual proximity is the experience Expand gives users of business critical applications and services across WANs. Virtualization and consolidation within organizations results in gaps between users and business resources forming the ‘Proximity Gap’. Expand bridges this gap by delivering virtual proximity to users.
This includes server virtualization at the datacenter, server consolidation at branch offices or desktop virtualization for remote users. Expand actually bridges the proximity gap by putting the user in virtual proximity to the application and data center services.
Targus, a supplier of mobile computing accessories has exhibited fast growth. The company experienced problems in WAN-related communication in the MPLS network as the traffic increased. The bandwidth and latency problems and lack of traffic prioritization affected the performance of its WAN and applications.
Jim Lasher, Operations Manager for Targus pointed out that Expand addressed his company’s bandwidth and latency difficulties besides making the network traffic much more efficient.
Lasher added, “The ability of Expand to do traffic discovery was a major help for us in determining what type of traffic was flowing across our network. With this information we were able to configure the QoS parameters on our MPLS network to prioritize our most meaningful traffic. This is a major benefit unique to Expand that enabled us to renew the ROI on our existing MPLS network.”
Expand’s integrated technology almost doubled the network capacity of Targus. This enabled Targus to share extra bandwidth with its other offices which were smaller and located remotely well within its IT budget. Expand also helped Targus in accelerating an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system running over Citrix and Web applications at Targus’ split datacenter. This will enhance end user experiences.
Andrew W. Mullen, Vice President, Sales, at Expand Networks explained that his company’s solutions can accelerate all applications and traffic types, in both physical and virtual environments. This will take care of any customer’s application performance issues as the integrated technology provides real and verifiable ROI being more comprehensive.
